This study aims at shedding light on reference - considering it a primary means of cohesion -, and thus clarifying its role and effect throughout a special kind of poetry, i.e. illness poetry, and specifically this of Badr Shaker El Siab & Aml Donkol and Helmy Salem. I discussed in the first part of this study the definition of Reference, stating the different kinds of each of endophoric reference and exophoric reference, in addition to demonstrating the various reference items: Personal Pronouns, Demonstratives, Relative Pronouns, THE and Comparatives. And as for the problematic points, especially those arise from the different nature of Arabic and English Languages, I have commented on each of them, choosing one of the settled opinions or proposing a new one. Finally, I have followed Halliday & Ruqaia Hassan's way of table analysis - in their book - in analyzing two whole poems of illness poetry (I listen to him weeping – The fingers), ending each analysis by a critical comment.
