This study examines the fables of La Fontaine as a "speech"; it means as a language in the case of use by a receiver characterized by will and intelligence for aesthetic and intellectual targets that seek to persuade and influence, during the presentation of ideas indirectly because the discourse here is literary.
The study aims to monitor how was the art of fable by La Fontaine was elevated, and acquired its technical characteristics, dramatic style and its special characteristics that distinguish it from the rest of the other literary arts.
The researcher relied in this study upon linguistics sayings to describe the language of literary texts and to demonstrate its characteristics; the approach taken by "Roman Jakobson" in the application of structural linguistic approaches to the study of literature. Therefore, Jakobson divided the functions of language into six functions: the emotional, communicative, confirmatory, referential, poetic, and influential functions. This research is a trial for the application of these functions on the fables of La Fontaine using examples for each function.
The researcher adopted in the translation of fables faithful transfer of the French template to the Arabic language, unlike the so-called "free translation", which does not comply with the transfer of words, but aims to get the message and content, in a manner that fits the Arab culture.
Finally, the result of research is the investigation of the usage of La Fontaine a centered soft style of writing, and a wide variety of weights in his fables, depending on the richness of his linguistic background, which did not stop at the borders of the dictionary language, but included local dialects and accents of workers and tradesmen, depending as well on his sense of musical flour, both in the selection of the appropriate word for the subject, or in the selection of the weight that goes along with the idea or emotion, which has had an impact in promoting life and movement in the fables.
