It is observed that Arabic literature of the late ancient era has not been thoroughly investigated as compared to that of the early ancient eras such as the Pre-Islamic and the Umayyad ones. This is due to the common and still valid conception that the former is no more than a mimickry of the latter, although some scholars have tried to draw attention to the exaggeration involved in the argument; they hove pointed out that some of this literature, in fact, contains a fertile life and a vived imaging of the events an surrounding circumstances.
The critical an technical aspects of the Jihad poetry in the sixth and seventh Hijri centuries has been chosen to be investigated here for two reasons: First, this type of poetry is deemed as one of the most sincere verse written in these centuries: Scond, the research work so far done on it is only partial and incomprehensive. The study starts with historical notes on the Crusade and Mongol raids in that period and the Moslems’ defense in famous holy wars. Then, various samples of jihad poetry depiction these wars are presented with a critical and technical analysis. The aim is to point out the most significant effects of various in jluencing factors on this poetry, explore how much mimickry and imitation it involves, determine whether it is inspired by the poetical heritage or contradicts is with its own innovation and, finally, investigate to which extent it was injluenced by the restraints of the rhetorical devices that prevailed in the restraints of the rhetorical devices that prevailed in the literature of that period. The study ends up with the most important conclusions obtained by the researcher.
