Academic interest in the culture, identity and information needs of children has lately gained currency in many research fields. This interest can be demonstrated through the review of literature that reveals the role of cultural institutions such as children’s libraries in the education of children and satisfying their intellectual, social and recereational needs to protect their identity from any potential threat to their culture and sense of belonging. Although few studies have dealt with the role of cultural institutions and children’s libraries, this does not deny the fact that many others have focused on childhood, the socialization of children, and the development of their culture, thought and identity to suit the context of globalization.
