This study is of great significance since it examines figures of speech which play a major role in creating the text on one hand, and explores, on the other hand, the poetry of Mahmood Darweesh- poetry which echoes a poetical phenomenon in the way it displays an ideological and thoughtful content, and poetical capacity to transform such a content to modern poetry.
This poet touches on the notion of lost freedom, lost homeland, absently present cities, the land that forms a place irrelevant to time, emotions veering in between love of life, depression, dream, reality, comparison, and, above all, to submission to feebleness. This medley brings out highly distinguished poetry, teeming with successful use of figures of speech. In so doing, this study aims to unravel the concept, resources and types of the figures of speech and to read some stanzas.
