Military operations have played an influential role in the declining numbers palm in Iraq since the beginning of the Iraq war - Iran (1980) through the first Gulf war (1991) to the second Gulf War (2003) and to result of military operations and the preparation of palm on the decrease.
Iraq had occupied the leading position among countries of the world in the preparation of palm trees and quantity of production, but the numbers decreased from Palm (30 million trees) in the sixties of the last century to less than (10 million Palm) at the present time.
Basra was the largest forest of palm in the world, as well as being the largest city for the production of dates in the world, but the position changed, as it fell on the groves of Basra millions of shells and trampled tanks fields were uprooting hundreds of thousands of the finest types of palms, especially on the banks of the Shatt al-Arab. As well as other provinces including the province of Diyala, Babil and other provinces.
This decrease in the date palm tree has significant environmental impacts, because this tree's role in mitigating the air of dust and pollutants, especially carbon dioxide that causes global warming, as that of the Palm the role of canopy and protection for the cultivation of the finest types of crops of citrus fruits and vegetables and others.
