Most researchers have focused on observing Ibn Faris's (d. 395 AH) approach to the foundations themselves and pursuing the reasons and causes with which he frames the subsidiary meanings from which he extracts the general meaning. This is the usual practice in studies, but to observe something that contradicts this, namely his expulsion of the branches, raises questions about the inductive mentality through which he mastered the crafting of his dictionary.
This is a study of what he refused to include in the general meaning of those roots, which calls us to investigate the mechanisms he adopted in his approach on the one hand, and the reasons for this exclusion on the one hand of the words themselves.
Ibn Faris tends to mention a fair number of words, which he judges to be outside this general meaning, and excludes them from it. These words are the focus of this proposed research. The subject will undertake to monitor these words as much as possible—and they are numerous and sufficient—then categorize and study them according to a scientific analysis of the reason for their exclusion, to present another picture of the mechanisms of his work in the lexical industry, which demonstrates the uniqueness of his method and approach.
