The current study was conducted to identify the level of loneliness among senior citizens in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, their extent of social media use, and the nature of the relationship between usage variables (duration and variety) and the level of loneliness. The study adopted a quantitative survey methodology, utilizing the UCLA Loneliness Scale. The scale was administered to a sample of 391 elderly individuals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study found that the level of loneliness among the elderly falls within the moderate range (with a mean score of 45.15). The results also showed that the majority of the elderly (85%) use social media moderately (one to less than four hours per day), with a clear preference for 'YouTube' and 'WhatsApp' Critically, the study revealed no statistically significant relationship between the quantity of use (duration or variety) and the level of loneliness, confirming that the quality of use is the decisive factor, not the quantity. The study concluded by presenting several recommendations, most notably: launching national and community-based initiatives aimed at reducing loneliness among the elderly by promoting the 'qualitative use' of social media through training them in interactive digital skills.
