This study aims to examine the ruling on setting a time limit for the option of designation in Islamic jurisprudence by presenting the opinions of jurists on the issue, supporting their arguments, and discussing them to determine the most valid opinion. Relying on both inductive and comparative methodologies, the study concludes that it is permissible to set a time limit for the option of designation. Jurists generally agree that the duration should be limited to three days or less, as this period is deemed sufficient for reflection, deliberation, and product testing. Extending the duration beyond this may cause harm to the seller by potentially depriving them of the benefit of selling the item or missing other selling opportunities.
The study also clarified that restricting the duration of the option of designation does not contradict the objectives of Islamic law in safeguarding the interests of both contracting parties. Setting the limit at three days strikes a balance between the buyer's right to deliberate and avoid haste, and the seller’s right to avoid harm from prolonged indecision. The study highlighted the importance of this temporal condition in ensuring contractual stability and fairness between the two parties, reflecting the flexibility of Islamic jurisprudence and its capacity to adapt to emerging issues.
