This text explores the importance of adapting historical knowledge in the modern era, viewing it as an urgent necessity driven by contemporary challenges—particularly those of political, social, and cultural nature related to identity. The author argues that history, by its inherently flexible nature, is capable of being reinterpreted and reemployed, provided the appropriate methodological approach is applied. One of the key methods used by historians to achieve this is known as historical periodization—the division of history into distinct and coherent phases or periods characterized by shared political, economic, social, and intellectual contexts. The text emphasizes that each historical period possesses its own unique structure that differentiates it from others, thereby justifying the process of periodization. Building on this premise, the study aims to identify the challenges that arise when conventional models of periodization are applied to local histories, highlighting the need for theoretical groundwork before engaging with this methodological issue.
