This study aims to analyze the media role played by Anadolu Agency in shaping state positions regarding the Russia–Ukraine war during the period from 2022 to 2024. It examines the agency’s patterns of news coverage, its selection and framing strategies, and its contribution to constructing the international media agenda and influencing global public opinion.
To achieve its objectives, the study adopted a mixed-method approach that combined quantitative content analysis with a descriptive-analytical study of journalists’ perspectives within the agency. This allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the communicative and political dimensions of the coverage.
The findings indicate that Anadolu Agency plays a significant role in shaping the media discourse surrounding the war through selective coverage that emphasizes the Ukrainian narrative and politically charged issues. This approach reflects alignment with Turkey’s geopolitical orientations. The study also reveals that the agency employs communicative frames that contribute to reshaping audience perceptions of events, consistent with the principles of agenda-setting and framing theories, and intertwined with concepts of media and cultural hegemony.
