Bukhara is considered one of the most important cities in Transoxiana. Given its proximity to Khorasan, a significant region for Arab Muslims, they sought to conquer it early in the history of the Arab-Islamic state. After several attempts, it was finally conquered in the late first century AH. Despite the delay in its conquest, biographical dictionaries are filled with hundreds of scholars from Bukhara, which was known as a gathering place for jurists and a source of virtuous people.
Among these sources isAl-Ikmalby Ibn Makula, which includes a large number of scholars from Bukhara, their scholarly journeys to other Islamic cities, and the journeys of Muslim scholars to Bukhara. The book also highlights the city's reputation for having scholarly families whose members inherited the tradition of hearing and transmitting hadith.
The book also makes it clear that Ibn Makula paid great attention to attributing scholars from Bukhara to their villages, which confirms the geographical knowledge he possessed. He also focused on their scholarly travels and the familial relationships among the scholars.
