Abstract:
Black comedy means talking about tragic topics with a sense of humor and has been associated with serious and sensitive topics such as murder, violence, death, political corruption, and human sexuality. This style represents one of the basic artistic elements that enable the short story writer to represent the living reality with a dual vision that expresses the contradictions of life, this is clearly evident in the texts of the short story collection (Candy Maker) by the novelist and short story writer (Azhar Jirjis) which is one of the short story collections written in a satirical narrative language. Its events take place during the Baathist regime and the period following its fall, especially after many restrictions and barriers were broken before the Iraqi writer and he had the courage to talk about what was unspoken. This was clearly reflected in the topics of narrative fiction, which enriched the literary arena with narrative texts that present contemporary topics with a new vision different from what is familiar. The writer adopted a set of methods in presenting black comedy, including: Focusing on the negative and tragic side of the character's environment, putting characters in embarrassing and unexpected situations, or using surprises that are the opposite of reality, and employing religious and social symbols in shaping the dialogue and employing the sadistic character in making black comedy
