Continuing clashes between Iraqi forces and ISIS in Anbar province have forced thousands of families to flee toward the capital, Baghdad, and other safe areas since mid-April 2015.
The displacement movement has captured the attention of Iraqi media outlets since the beginning of the operation. Media coverage has varied, addressing the causes of displacement, the humanitarian conditions of the displaced, and the potential security risks facing cities receiving residents fleeing the fighting.
The current study examines the determinants of media coverage of the IDP issue in Iraq, its contexts, and the frameworks governing media discourse on this issue. It also provides an analysis of the media frameworks for reporting on the IDP issue in Iraq and the attitudes of the Iraqi public toward it. The study used the analytical approach to identify the determinants of the media's treatment of the issue of displaced persons in Iraq, its contexts, and the frameworks regulating the discourse by studying the lexical map and its network of meanings, the objectives of the actors in this conflict, and identifying the components of the image that the Iraqi Media Network and the National Media Alliance wanted to present about the issue of displaced persons in Iraq, and their perceptions and representations of the event
