The researcher presented the definition of the Aorist in the Ancient Greek language in the classic period (the 5th century B.C.). She gave a brief account about the tragic poet Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound that she applied the study on.
In the preface, The researcher presented the definition of the Aorist and the difference between the Greek tense and aspect. There are three tenses: Present, Past and future. In addition to three aspects: Aorist, Imperfective and Perfective.But the difference is only between the Past in the Indicative aspects.
The Tragic Aorist describe feeling has began direct before the utterance. It describes the verb as if it was past, but actually it was present. The tragic Aorist is used with the verbs of speak and request as a momentary verbs. It’s used in the dialogues in the tragedy.
The Polite Aorist expresses a polite method. This is due to the nature of the Aorist as a polite aspect and tense as in the use of Polite Aorist in the Indicative mood also, as the use of the Aorist converts the command to a polite request.
