Summary:
This research aims to study the manifestations of poetic language in the novel “The Bamboo Stalk” by the novelist Saud Al-Sanousi, which won the Booker Prize for the Arabic Novel of the Year (2013). In it, the author addressed the subject of the search for identity in Kuwait and the Arab Gulf countries, and addressed the issue of foreign labor in the Gulf countries, as well as deep critical questions about the intersection of religion and culture among Arabs and the superficiality that dominates discourse and religious practice.
This necessitated a study of the poetic language in the novel in an introduction and two sections:
The first section: in which the concept of poetics and the position of the ancients and moderns towards it was examined. The second section: The fictional text - the bamboo stalk - was analyzed in light of the poetic language and its manifestations. Through the poetry of thresholds (the poetry of the title, the poetry of dedication, and the poetry of the cover).
And the poetics of narration (similes, metaphors, epithets, and rhythm). To achieve this, the study relied on the descriptive analytical method. The study was appended with a conclusion presenting its most prominent results.
