Since 2003, Iraqi society has faced acts of terrorism and the influence of extremist leaders, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives and the occupation of parts of Iraqi provinces. Following military and security liberation operations, there emerged a need to develop strategies, programs, and activities to support military efforts in reducing extremism. This study focuses on the role of social work, as both a science and an art, in individual and group services, as well as community organization, in mitigating extremism. It also examines Iraqi national strategies and programs, along with the challenges they encountered in addressing violent extremism. The study comprises a theoretical section that discusses the literature on the subject, and a field section employing a social survey methodology with sampling. A questionnaire was used, targeting 50 social researchers from institutions under the Ministry of Justice and Iraqi civil society organizations. Additionally, interviews were conducted with senior officials involved in the development of strategies and programs. The study's findings indicate a significant role for social work in strategies to combat violent extremism leading to terrorism, as well as various challenges faced by social workers, confirmed at a significance level of (0.05).
