Derek Parfit's applied moral philosophy has had a great influence on contemporary moral philosophy, as his ideas are still widely debated among many philosophers. His moral philosophy was distinguished by its strict approach, which was characterized by its analytical nature to the moral issues that were referred to in the intellectual arena in general. In addition to his willingness to challenge the traditional assumptions that were raised about morality and the self, which crystallized his point of view in favor of the reductionism of identity and personality, his intellectual experiments and moral arguments also sparked important controversy and discussions about the nature of our obligations to future generations, as well as the ethical implications resulting from reliance on new technologies in various aspects of life.
