This research studies the problem of depending the Iraqi audience upon newspapers, as one of the traditional media, in the formation of their information and general knowledge. It is a descriptive study adopted a descriptive survey method which depicts the circumstances or the current trends of the phenomenon under study and attempts to interpret it. The researcher uses questionnaire primarily as a research tool which is designed and distributed to a sample of 150 intentional researchers of male and female readers of newspapers.
The researcher ends with the following results: the printed press is no longer saturated and responsive to the needs of audience; the Iraqi publics do not depend on the printed press in increasing their consciousness and developing their general knowledge; they use alternative media to satisfy their cognitive, affective and behavioral needs. A large proportion of respondents (61%) do not rely on newspapers to get their information and knowledge; also, half of the respondents read on an irregular basis for a period of less than an hour at a time. The political news and topics are the most attractive topics of which the audience is interested
