The efforts of Frank Noel Sibley (1923-1998) contributed to enriching serious research into the logic of aesthetic judgment, especially his research “The Aesthetic and the Aesthetic,” which drew attention to this field of research, and interest in it became the core of the issue of relationship Between aesthetic and non-aesthetic properties.
Therefore, the current study aims to clarify the form of the relationship between aesthetic and non-aesthetic characteristics according to Sibley, and to shed light on the role of non-aesthetic concepts in aesthetic judgment. Can the distinction between aesthetic and non-aesthetic concepts on which Sibley’s research “Aesthetic Concepts” was based be determined without falling into a vicious circle? Also, how can we get the recipient to see the aesthetic values or characteristics that we see in the artwork? How objective is criticism in light of the statement that what is meant by criticism is an activity that reveals the aesthetic and perceptual features of a work of art? What makes a concept governed by non-conclusive conditions an aesthetic concept? How was Sibley's theory an alternative to Beardsley's theory? What was Scruton's attitude towards Sibley?
