What is the objective of this research entitle (The injunction of playing dice and chess and similar contemporary games)?
The objective of this research is to identify the reason of the prohibition of playing dice, the statement of this juristic question is important, because it is stemmed from the knowledge of the injunction of playing different old games such as chess and new games existent in modern times. Ibn Abdulbar said "The dices are colored pieces made of boxwood, elephant bone, and so on. It is known as a drum, known as a javelin, also known as arsenic, also known as backgammon."
the majority of jurists scholars prohibited playing the dice, because the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: "Whoever plays backgammon, it is as if he dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig.". Ibn Qudaamah and Ibn Taymiyyah quoted the consensus of juristic scholars on the prohibition of playing dice if adheres to do commitment, because they considered it as gambling, accordingly, the reason of the prohibition is same.
Chess: a game played on a 64-square-foot patch, representing two belligerent countries with thirty-two pieces, representing the two kings, two ministers, cavalries, castles, elephants and (Indian) soldiers. The conditional play of chess for compensation or obligation of commitment is prohibited according to the consensus of the Muslims.
The scholars disagree about chess if they are exempt from the aspects of prohibition, because they do not come up with what is forbidden. The frequent chess playing is disapproved, because it is a game does not benefit in the matter of religion without need to do, and perhaps became a means to fall into the illegitimacy, but playing chess is permissible in case of considering the legitimacy.
The games are divided into two types:
1 – Games helps to Jihad.
2. Games don't help to Jihad . they are divided into three types: Games in which mentioned prohibition texts such as dice. Games includes a prohibited part such as games including figures statues or photos of those have spirit or including, and games don't include any prohibition and don't lead to the prohibition such as football, volleyball, table tennis, as mentioned in the core of the research.
