This study aims at giving a general overview of the conjunction of synonyms in the work of Arab grammarians in general and Kurāʽ Alnaml’s book Almuntakhab min Ghareeb Kalam Alarab in particular, focusing mainly on a section a section in this book titled ‘‘Repeating the Meaning When the Two Words are Different’.
The study consists of an introduction, two sections and a conclusion. The first section encompasses a general overview of Kurāʽ Anaml, a theoretical discussion of the meanings of conjunction particles in Arabic as found in the work of Arab grammarians and a discussion of ancient and modern Arab grammarians’ points of view on ‘the Adjunction of Synonyms’, with special reference to those who support or deny it. The second section explores 15 examples given on ‘the Adjunction of Synonyms’ in Almuntakhab. The study ends with a conclusion of the main results of the study and a bibliography.
