According to the descriptive research method, this study falls within the framework of exploratory descriptive studies, which seek to explore the relationship between the female body as a material capital from one hand and plastic surgery from the other hand. A case study guide in in-depth interview situation is used as the data collection tool. The researcher conducted an in-depth case study on a number of cases (consisting of twenty cases, (fourteen cases) of the cases who had undergone plastic surgeries or considering to perform the surgery and had accepted the interview, beside six cases of doctors). The study dealt with the age group of 18-22, 35:50 of married and unmarried women.
The problem of the study is defined in a question which is: What is the role of social and cultural practices in forming the relationship of the female with her body?
Has the social field transformed the body from a symbolic structure that works according to the culture of the society in which it is located into a new structure that seeks new stereotypical standards of beauty through a global culture that cares about displaying the body and showing it as a tool for pleasure and consumption? How could plastic surgery give women the chances and profits that enable her to get the social acceptance and become prominent for the aesthetic qualifications she possess ?
The study was based on several objectives, some of them are: Defining the role of Heptus as a motive to resort to plastic surgery so as to form the image of the female body which is in line with the social field (standards).
The study reached to conclusions, including: -
The study confirmed the theoretical saying of Bourdieu, which implies that the modern body has a very complex role in exercising power and in reproducing social prejudice, as the symbolic values related to these physical images become very important to the awareness of many people of themselves. Also, the owners of resources have become willing to treat the body as an existing life project, Therefore, the search for plastic surgery has become a product of the occurrence of the falling of the female as a victim of the pressures exerted by the society on her. In this regard, two cases indicated that the father and mother had a role in undertaking the plastic surgeries, while five cases referred to the role of the husband, and two cases referred to the role of relatives and colleagues, whereas the impact of social media was on five of the cases. All the cases seek for these changes of the body to come near to the form that society agrees with. And all of them have confirmed that media and what the stars of cinema and art look like have a great and pressing role in forming such a perception, which indicates the power of media and the high impact of the new media on shaping body image.
