While originally intended for Light comedy situations, Hidden Camera Shows have turned in the recent years to a tool of guests’ humiliation and intimidation.
The purpose of this study is investigating the relationship between the public’s exposure to “Ramez playing with Fire”; the most watched Hidden Camera Show during Ramadan 2016, and their level of awareness regarding the underlying values of such show and the negative messages it sends. The present study is based on examining the foundation of learning through entertainment strategy (Entertainment Education) and media literacy. The study’s methodology was surveying media outlets to collect a sample of viewers of hidden camera shows, which reached 400 persons aged 19-60 and even older. Results proved that there is a correlation between heavy exposure to Hidden Camera Shows and viewers’ cognition of values transmitted through such programs. Findings suggest that Hidden Camera Shows can be used as a tool of Social Learning.
