This paper is an attempt at a comparative analysis of the views of B. Moore, E. wolf, J. Migdal, Theda Skocpal, J. Paige and J. Scott in modern peasant revolution. We shall review and evaluate what these scholars have to say in answer to four major questions: (1) What is the social structure and the historical situation that leads the peasant to revolution? (2) Which peasant are most prone to revolution, and Why?, (3) What roles the political and military organization play in peasant – based revolution? (4) Does Capitalist imperialism create conditions for peasant – based revolution- and if so, How?
These organizing question will take us to the heart of the basic arguments of the five authors – and into the thick of the often sharp differences among them.
