A comprehensive field survey was carried out for 320 poultry production projects in Baghdad governorate for the year 2017 distributed in eight districts, (255) projects of them were projects for meat chicken, the largest percentage was in Mahmudiyah district with (23.9%) , and (65) were projects for eggs, the largest of which was in the district of Tarmiyah with (24.6%). The poultry production in Baghdad Governorate is currently facing many challenges, can be divided to three types : Natural , Human and Biological challenges , The greatest natural challenges facing the production of these projects were the extreme temperatures that did not fit the poultry thermal requirements, as well as salinity of the soil, which spread in large areas of land with different percentages.
While there were many human challenges, can be arranged respectively according to their impact degree as follows : Competition of foreign products, lack of government supports, high fuel prices, high fodder prices, difficulty of disease control, lack of electricity supply, lack of good chicken veins, marketing problems, lack of experienced and skilled workers, high transport costs, lack of water resources, as well as the lack of working incubators, with only (13) incubators, the insufficient number of feedlots (only 8) concentrated in Al-Madain and Tarmiya districts, and the lack of Veterinary health units (only 13 units) , As for the Biological challenges , they were represented with diseases . The highest percentage was in Winter with (32.8%) then in Summer with (30.6%). The highest percentage was for Newcastle disease and Infectious Bronchitis (IB) disease with (20%) for both.
