Domestic worker (helper, or servant) is among jobs currently found in society, as Iraqi families are witnessing increase in employing domestic workers in some neighborhoods.
Therefore, the study aimed at shedding light on domestic worker in the city of Baghdad to find out the most prominent reasons behind the emergence of the phenomenon of domestic worker, and to find out the social and economic dimensions resulting out of this phenomenon.
To achieve these aims, a survey questionnaire papers were handed to 300 families that employ domestic workers, whether foreign or local. The study adopted the social survey method.
The sample of the survey was chosen according to two methods, one was intentional which included 120 families having foreign domestic workers, and the other was a snowball method including 80 families with local domestic workers.
Among the most prominent outcomes were that women played a great role in bringing domestic workers, the preoccupation of mothers and fathers and their multiple roles out of their houses contributed to this phenomenon, most of the families that employ domestic workers were those of high economic level, and most families prefer foreign workers rather than local ones, due to their low wages and high quality performance.
