Love and knowledge are the wind beneath the wings of those who seek God; through them they elevate to the level of testament, omnipresence, and mystical vanishing; they are dialectically related, and through them seekers conclude their spiritual path. This is why this research elucidates the essence, types, and interrelation of love and knowledge. Is it illusory to claim that a lover cannot be knowledgeable, and vice versa? And what was the relationship between love and knowledge for Ibn al-Fared and Ibn ‘Arabi? Did they see them similarly? We draw on phenomenological and interpretive methods to study this dialectical relationship. Several research questions will lead us to conclude that love and knowledge are two sides of the same coin; they are inseparable. And that Ibn ‘Arabi was a Sufi whose knowledge outweighed his love, while Ibn al-Fared was one whose love outweighed his knowledge; and that we can only perceive the divine truth by transcending sense and reason to the soul and the heart themselves. We will navigate together a life of elevated wisdom on an intellectual and gnostic journey from the world of creatures to the divine truth.
