The problem of study is the role of the Facebook social network has crystallized in shaping the attitudes of the Egyptian public towards the case of the islands of Tiran and Sanafir, and the subject was addressed in the light of the public domain theory that these sites are a virtual society, consists of a group of individuals with common characteristics and interacting equally with each other on common issues, in our current case, the case of Tiran and Sanfair, in this framework, the study aims to identify the role of Facebook in influencing the public opinion.
The current study was based on the social survey method in the sample to reveal the role of the social network Facebook in shaping the trends of the Egyptian public opinion towards the case of Tiran and Sanafir by applied on a sample of the Egyptian public from the rural and urban populations.
The researcher relied on the standardized interview tool as a flexible and applicable tool for collecting information in survey research.
The researcher applied the interview form to a random group of 400 research units in the governorates of Cairo and BeniSuef with 200 units in urban areas and 200 units in rural areas.
The field study took about three months between the preparation of the interview sheet and arbitration and procedures of honesty and persistenceand then the final application of it, encoding and classification data and perform of statistical processing.
Field results confirmed that 58% of the sample spent 1 to 3 hours and 31% spent less than 1 hour and finally 11% spend more than 3 hours. It means that the majority of the sample, which exceeds two-thirds of the sample, spends a relatively long time surfing Facebook,It is an indication of the high daily interaction with this network.
