This study aims at examining the readings of maqamaat Badee' alZaman alHamadhani, who is considered as the first and most significant pioneer of maqamaat, since none of the previous ones was in the same nature of structure, though there were some indications. The total readings of the maqamaat were incidental comments, impressionalistic appreciation, feelings without referring to it. Sources of literature books and bibliographies did not mention that there was someone who took the initiative of narrating all of the maqamaat alhamadhani, or endeavored to interpret its meanings, explain them of various aspects, linguistically, grammatically, or rhetorically. Receiving Badee' alZaman alHamadhani was distinguished as timidity compared to what was noted with maqamaat alhariri which emerged later during the six Hijri century and predominated it. The researcher based on the Arabs' general view to the Arabic story, the view to the narrator and the impact of this view on receiving maqamaat alhamadhani, since the implicit receipt and the attempt to avoid the original shape of maqama is a part of Arabs' view to the nature of story, considering it a low pattern of Arabic prose with respect to the prose patterns that Arabs excelled then such as elocution and epistles. Here, it was an attempt to observe Arabs' receipt to maqama as a single form of technical writing, and their acceptance to this type of writing.

The outbreak of the second world two has resulted world partition into two conflicting fronts where the allied power lead by France and Britain and axis power lead by Germany , Italy and Japan. This conflict has extended to involve some other countries that were forced to enter e.g. the dispute between Britain and Italy because of Abyssinia war in 1935 . The importance of Libya specially Barga region has raised on surface during this conflict where the two parties get aware of its dangerous site . When Britain requests the UN to impose economical sanctions on Italy the latter has erected fortifications in Barga region. . Tension has started to get worse when a political approach is noted between Italy and Germany where they seem to form hazard in the middle east. Allegations became true when the British foreign minister reveals Mussolini foreseen plan that include occupation of all British strategic centers in the area of conflict . Situation get worse between Britain and Italy which lead to a bloody war on the Libyan soil as successive rounds of attack and retreat . This research reviews military operations of both axis and allied countries on the Libyan territory where the researcher presents simple picture to events' currents during the second world two .The power scale shows that some sort of vacillation in force took place on the Libyan sand during the years 41-1942, i.e. a struggle that never happens between the German product and the Allied product with reference to the effective role of the Libyan army on the war events e. g. assistance that lead to the victory of Allied countries .

Academic interest in the culture, identity and information needs of children has lately gained currency in many research fields. This interest can be demonstrated through the review of literature that reveals the role of cultural institutions such as children’s libraries in the education of children and satisfying their intellectual, social and recereational needs to protect their identity from any potential threat to their culture and sense of belonging. Although few studies have dealt with the role of cultural institutions and children’s libraries, this does not deny the fact that many others have focused on childhood, the socialization of children, and the development of their culture, thought and identity to suit the context of globalization.

The aim of this study is to identify the capabilities and characteristics of the Suez Canal in the light of the characteristics of the global fleet of container ships. The study attempts to examine the movement of container ships through according to four variables: the number of ships, net tonnage, cargo quantity and the number of containers crossing the Suez Canal with regard to directions, origins, destinations or the number of container ships in contrast to the total number of vessels passing in the Suez Canal. The final section of the study focuses on alternative routes in contrast to the Suez Canal. The conclusions of the study demonstrate that the container ships account for 40% of the total number of ships crossing the Suez Canal in 2011, while approaching 60% of total net tonnage, which is the most important variable, according to which the estimated tolls of crossing the Suez Canal represent 60% of the Suez Canal revenues amounting to $ 5.2 billion in 2011. As of 2011, the number of loaded containers traversing the Suez Canal was 38 million. In addition, the study showed that Malaysia came on the top of all origins of container traffic crossing the Suez Canal, contributing about 19% of the total net tonnage of container ships crossing the Suez Canal in 2011, while Singapore came on the top of all destinations of movement providing 21.9% of the total net tonnage of container ships crossing the Suez Canal in 2011. The study confirmed that other alternative railroad, desert or sea routes cannot compete with the Suez Canal in allowing container transport between Asia and Europe. However, the high rates of the navigation costs might lead some marine navigation companies would seek alternative routes to avoid the high fees of crossing the Suez Canal.

The present paper attempts to explore the functional use of the German myth of The Pied Piper of Hameln in the Canadian dramatist Colleen Murphy’s (1954--) The Piper, (2002). In the selected play, Murphy exhibits a serious and important social issue namely, child neglect: its aspects, causes, and negative repercussions on the child, and on the future of the society at large. Murphy’s The Piper presents the parents and adults of the Corporate Democracy of Hameln as completely preoccupied with the affairs and enterprises of the Corporate, thereby ignoring the good rearing of their children. It becomes essential, therefore, that the study refers to various theories on child care and child psychology. The study also points out to Murphy’s use of the myth of the Pied Piper in portraying an ill-functioning society on the social, economic, and political levels. Consequently, the use of myth in evoking a deteriorated society will be dealt with. Murphy’s employment of the technical devices of satire, irony, and symbolism in dealing with the inter-related significance of myth will be tackled. Finally, the study examines the instrumentality of myth in transmitting warning messages that might hinder the establishment of a well-balanced, and well- functioning society. It tries to explore the ubiquity of myth that allows it to transcend its regional implications, and reach universality.

Transracial Negotiation of the Self in the Poetry of Jackie Kay

Applying some notions formulated by the cultural critic Stuart Hall about identity formation in contemporary Britain, this paper tries to show how the contemporary British poet Jackie Kay (b.1961) negotiates a sense of the self from the perspective of mixed parentage—a black child born to a Nigerian father and a white Scottish mother, and adopted by white Scottish parents. Though her autobiographical verse The Adoption Papers (1991) largely examines her adopted identity, it contains references to her black identity, enlarged on in her next two volumes, Other Lovers (1993) and Off Color (1998). Although she writes as poet whose original culture and language are British—her accent and idioms are Scottish—her identity is questioned due to the fact of her mixed parentage. Color—also blood and health—becomes a mark of difference, a difference which she tries to get over. It is rather this politicized sense of identity whish she challenges. She constructs her identity in relation to a white majority that has the power to decide who should and who should not claim a true British identity. In order to construct a "positive" image of her, she has to get recognition from that other, to go through the eye of his "needle, according to Hall. But the eye of that "needle" has narrowed down because of racial discrimination that reached its peak with Thatcher's Nationality Act (1981), which denied people of color a claim for a British national identity. This attitude created different forms of resistance on the part of all Black writers. On Kay's part, the present researcher detects physical violence, verbal irony, identification with other blacks who achieved "cultural visibility" and imaginative border crossings. All these emphasize her search for an identity, based not on ethnic, but on social and cultural identification, a national identity that includes a local sense of belonging and extends also beyond it, in short one that reconciles her blackness and Britishness. For her, poetry becomes a site of representation, resisting a gaze that ignores her voice and focuses only on her face.

The Poetics of Mystical Desire:
A Lacanian Reading of Kamala Das’s Early love Poems
Mohamed
E. Dawoud

text
article
2013
ara
Kamala Das’s early poetry has been a topic of discussion, debate and dissension since the publication of her first collection of poems in 1965. Although there has been a significant amount of critical works on Das’ early poetry in the last few decades, most of these works have limited themselves to a narrow range of perspectives that tend to polarize Das’s poetry as either degenerating in its moral values or potentially progressive because of its political and social concerns. But both of these views are, in themselves, too single-faceted to encompass the religious and mystical implications in Das’s early love poetry. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to steer clear from such a reductive style by offering a more nuanced reading of Das’s early love poetry through the psychoanalytical perspectives of Jacques Lacan. Emphasized throughout the paper is the means by which Lacan’s insights and notions on “feminine sexuality’, mysticism and hysteria can help establish a new critical path for the understanding of how Das’s early poetry is enmeshed in a sensibility that leans towards the perennial question of the interconnection between mysticism and hysteria. Reading Das’s early love poetry in the light of Lacan’s psychoanalytic insights in his Encore underscores the ways in which Das portrays herself in the guise of her persona as a Bhakti whose desire for the divine is perceived and apprehended in terms of the ineffable union after which the Bhakti seeks with ardent intent. The paper also refers at its end to Luce Irigaray’s revisionist reading of Lacan’s insights on mysticism and hysteria, and suggests that Irigaray’s notion of “La Mysterique” can be found running as leitmotif through much of Kamala Das’s early love poetry.
