The study aimss at detecting images and forms of symbolic violence against women in cinematic drama on satellite channels in the recent years. The social, economic, cultural structure and superstructure of the discourse that uses its expressive tools and mechanisms to introduce women in cinematic drama have been set according to the ideology and orientation of these channels connecting this to the roles, moral values, concepts, and theories that support the symbolic violence against women. The study used a descriptive approach relying on semiology and content analysis. The recent study has reached several results, among which are the increase of symbolic violence against woman in cinematic drama, and the marginalization of the fundamental issues affecting women focusing on marginal ones which exclude women from the serious roles that express the actual status of women in the Egyptian society. The results involve also the control of cultural globalization on the movies as a cultural industry; something that leads, by time, to distorting the traditional structure of the society, and isolating woman away from their valuable interests.

The study dealt with the geographical location and its impact on Jordan's foreign policy toward the Syrian crisis through three axes. The first axes tackled the important geographical location of Jordan .The second one examined the instruments of making the Jordanian foreign policy. The last one dealt with the impact on the geographical location of Jordan's foreign policy toward the Syrian crisis with the attitude of the Jordanian foreign policy towards the Syrian crisis in terms of the geographical location. The study results in the fact that the geographical location of Jordan had played an essential role in steering the foreign policy towards the Syrian crisis. In other words, all the constituents of the location in terms of area, natural resources and the longitude of borders urged the Jordanian decision maker to adopt a balanced position towards the parties of the Syrian conflict, the existing regime and the opposition, despite the pressure exerted on Jordan to stand openly against the Syrian regime and to support the opposition. It should be noted that the geographical location did not give the foreign policy more opportunities to challenge the Syrian regime or take side with the opposition.

This paper attempts to shed light on Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) and discuss the debatable issue of its genre: some critics see it as a Gothic novel while others suggest that it is a romance. The paper aims to investigate whether it is a self-conscious novel because a thorough reading and analysis of the text show that many of the elements of this genre are employed. A definition of the self-conscious novel is given to help determine the criteria required for the analysis. The novel is chosen for this study due to its importance in the history of the English novel. Also, it has been selected as the book of 2010 for Dublin City's ' One City, One Book Festival' in its fifth year. The paper concludes that it is a self-conscious novel, which gives it a unique position among the Victorian novels because this genre was not in vogue in the nineteenth century when realism was prominent in most works of art.

This study examines the topical structure analysis of 25 argumentative essays of first-year university students in Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). It specifically examines the internal coherence of the students’ essays by examining the internal topical structure and its three basic elements which are parallel, sequential, and extended parallel progressions employed by the sample students. The repetition of keywords and phrases is investigated using Lautamatti’s (1987) framework for the topical structure analysis (TSA). The findings of the study reveal that parallel progressions were the mostly employed with a percentage of 37.26%, followed by sequential progressions with a percentage of 35.62%, and extended parallel progressions with a percentage of 27.12% respectively. These findings suggest that students find difficulty in achieving coherence because of their poor lexical resources as L2 learners. It is recommended that instructors use the TSA as a strategy in teaching both intermediate and advanced academic courses. Consequently, the students’ familiarity with the TSA would contribute to enhancing coherence in their essays.
